Question:
Trade school scholarships?
I am a single mom and am in desperate need of finding scholarships and or grants to help me further my life. I am enrolled in beauty school and can't find anything pertaining to my future career being out of school for several years.
Answer:
First, find out if your beauty school is accredited. If it is, then you should be able to use state grants and maybe even a pell grant. You'll need to file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible. www.fafsa.ed.gov
Talk to your accounting office at the Beauty College and find out what financial aid is being used by other students. Then find out how to apply. Don't be shy - you won't get any scholarships, grants or loans without being pro-active.
There are many scholarships offered for re-entry students, single parents and trade schools. Start by registering with the College Board's Fast Web - It will search for scholarships for you based on the profile you provide. Then it will even email you with the website of scholarships it finds on a regular basis. www.fastweb.com
Apply for everything you find, and apply well. Neatness counts, deadlines are critical. File a complete application and include solid letters of recommendation when requested.
