Question:
Can someone explain to me how a mature student application works?
I dropped out of high school when I was 16. Since then I've learned that was kind of dumb. I'm trying to apply to a few University programs but am being told I can't apply as a mature student because I have already taken a course in trade school in small engine repair. I'v since left that trade in search for a stable job. Bartending is the best I've come up with. Was fixing lawm mowers the only chance at an education I get or can I still be accepted as a mature student with a post secondary course on my resume.
Does life experience help? I'm a war veteran, scout troop leader, volunteer in many fields, ex military instructor, ex police instructor and have mercenary experience.
Answer:
One plus you have in your favor is that there are scholarships for non-traditional students which sounds like you are. Go in to one of the college admissions office and let them help you. Tell them what your background is and let them see what they can do for you. You'd be surprised-schools LIKE mature students because their life experience adds to the classroom and they take school more seriously.
