Question:
Ozarks Technical Community College plans to be smoke-free by 2003. That means
no smoking on college property. Period.
?The policy is not intended to stigmatize tobacco users or create an
?anti-smoker? environment,? said OTC spokeswoman Mar?Ellen Felin. A committee
of smokers and nonsmokers will devise an ?appropriate and fair? plan of
implementation by January 2002, she said.
The community college is one of a number of institutions nationwide that are
banning smoking from campus buildings.
Drury University is one, having banned smoking in all buildings, including
residence halls, several years ago. Students complained that smoke traveled
through dormitory ventilation systems into the rooms of nonsmokers, said
Tristan Davies, director of public relations.
