Question:
Recent college grad..no career..Should I move to Los Angeles from Austin to be near my gf of 5 months?
I'm living at home, in Austin TX, with my mother and am not happy with my current situation. I've known my girlfriend for about 5 years, but we didn't start dating until recently. I love her and I'm thinking she may be the One. Should I head out to LA and see if this thing has a shot of working or wait for her to graduate,in May, and then find a city we both can relocate to? I heard LA is expensive and I'm not sure what the job market is like out there.
Answer:
I know that it's expensive to live in Austin, but it's much more magnified in CA. If she's only been your gf for 5 months, you'd be rushing it. You want to make it on your own first, I'm assuming, so you won't have to crawl back home to you parents. Get yourself a good job, save money and in several months you can begin looking for a place of your own. Live on your own for a while to make sure you can support yourself, continue saving the money. May will come around in no time. You don't want to embarass yourself in front of your gf by finding that you can't make it on your own, so, patience. Once you've bagged your job and lived on your own, when she's graduated and she's wanting to relocate or something with you, then you can go for it. Please don't rush into something like this.
