Question:
I am interested in learning carpentry and am a total beginner. What's
the best way to learn? Simply reading a lot of books? Or should I go
to a trade school? I also heard that one should get an apprenticeship?
How would I go about doing this?
Answer:
IMHO, it depends on whether you want to learn carpentry for your own
benefit or to earn a living. If you want to earn a living as a
carpenter, then trade school and the Union are the way to go. If you
just want to learn for your own edification, there are basic woodworking
classes available at woodworking shops and community colleges. I would
build something vastly different if I was doing it for profit than I
would for my own enjoyment.
