Now that Woodson has won the Heisman, and if he goes pro, kids will say
hmm.."Peyton Manning turns down millions, has a great year, and gets the shaft"
"Charles Woodson plays great in 2 games, gets the Heisman, goes pro after 3
years, and makes millions"
And nobody will stay for their senior year, and college football will suffer
As a "Utkman," I'm surprised that you would make that statement. Manning
said he came back to play ball and enjoy college and all of his
statements denied any interest in winning the Heisman. Maybe the writers
believed him a little too much and figured he downplayed the trophy too
much as well?
Or MAYBE they just felt that Woodson was the "most outstanding" college
football player this year. Woodson did some amazing things that happened
to be on TV when he did them, and all were in big games: agaisnt MSU,
PSU and OSU. His one-handed interception on the sideline against MSU was
a great play and probably the one that caused his Heisman candidacy to
pick up steam.
I'm a UTK grad and it hurt a little (actually, a lot) when Manning did
not receive the award. I was convinced, or I convinced myself, that he
would get it. Regardless, he's given four great years of his life to the
University, to UT football and to all UT football fans. I'm thankful for
that. I'll settle for a win in the Orange Bowl instead.
