How can I get into the CSI career field?

Question:
How can I get into the CSI career field?

I'd like to go to college to become a crime scene investigator, but I'm not sure where to start. What schools in the US are best for earning a degree in this field?

Also... I'm pretty interested in ballistics, but since I don't know all the subfields of crime scene investigation, I can't really rule any others out. So, can anyone give me places where I can find what different fields I can go into?

Answer:
if I were you, I would go to a local police station and ask if you could "shadow" a CSI. What I mean by that is to follow them around and see all their tasks that they do day-to-day. You can ask them why they decided to go into that field, what school they went to and any other questions you have pertaining to the subject. Also, find schools which offer programs in the area of CSI specialization that you would like to pursue, such as Campbell University's course in Victimology (CRIM 310) or Kean University's Crime Analysis course (CJ 3680)
