I have a choice of two nursing programs - Boston College vs Gettysburg College (PA). Which is better? Why?
I'm currently accepted into both Boston College (BC) and Gettysburg College's (GC) nursing programs. Costs are similar (both around $40-45K/yr). GC is offering $13K in scholarship funds; BC, $380. My (and my parents) want to know, if finances can be worked out, which one would better prepare me for the nursing career I'm pursuing. I've never visited either campus and am hoping someone can 'open my eyes' a bit to the pros/cons of attending one or the other. I need to make my decision by May1. In advance, thanks so much for your feedback.
You know, nurses are in very high demand and I am not certain that where you go to college actually makes a difference in hiring. I'd recommend that you call a couple of hospitals and ask their advice - whether a school with a better reputation actually makes a difference in either hiring or in long term advancement.
I have a sneaking suspicion that you won't gain a thing by paying more.
Also, don't be afraid to go to BC and say that you are getting $13K from GC, you'd love to go to BC but they just aren't competitive. You might be pleasantly surprised.
